Warning From The Prophet, Sallallaahu ‘Alaihi Wa Sallam Regarding The Corrupt Intention
He, sallAllaahu `alaihi wa sallam, said: "Whosoever learns knowledge by which is to be sought the Face of Allaah, but he does not do so except to goal of this world, he will not smell the odour of Paradise on the Day of Resurrection."(1)

What Is The Correct Intention For The Sincere Seeker Of Knowledge

Imaam al-Aajurree (d. 360H) - rahimullaah - said: "...worship is not possible without knowledge, so seeking knowledge is compulsory and ignorance is not a good state for the believer to be in, so he seeks knowledge to remove ignorance from himself and to be able to worship Allaah in the way Allaah has commanded..."(2)

Keys To Acquiring Knowledge

lbn Mas'ood - radiallaahu anhu - said: "Indeed I hold that a person forgets knowledge that he used to know because of sins that he commits."[3]

Wakee' (d.197H) - rahimahullaah - said: "I seek help in memorization by abandoning sin and disobedience."[4]

Maalik (d.179H) said to ash-Shafi’ee when they first met: "Indeed I see that Allaah has placed a light upon your heart so do not extinguish it with the darkness of disobedience and sin."[5]
